One of the most moving war memorials, the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial or "the Wall," as it's commonly referred to, is a
long black granite wall with the etched names of more than 58,000
Americans who perished during the Vietnam War. If you're looking for a
specific name, keep in mind the soldiers names are ordered by the date
they died — rather than alphabetically.
One recent TripAdvisor traveler recommends touring the wall, but also paying attention to the humanity that surrounds it: "Simple and powerful. … Look at the flowers and cards and the base of the wall and remember those who sacrificed so much for you. Be respectful when visiting."
Like many of D.C.'s monuments/memorials, the Vietnam Memorial is free and open 24 hours a day — though it's only staffed until midnight. You'll find it at the eastern end of the National Mall.
